Houses
cater to Bowdoin boozers
During this week's discussion forum, students tried to develop ideas
for improving the College House System. While such efforts are commendable,
it is unlikely that the House System will improve unless action
is taken regarding the place of alcohol in Bowdoin's social structure.
Triple-tiered honors highly discouraging Honors
projects should be serious endeavors; but they should not be albatrosses,
which is precisely what they have become in recent years. Those
who decide to carry through with their projects, not dropping them
or downgrading them into independent studies, often find themselves
plagued by self-loathing and regret by the end of the process.
