Erasing the memories of a 7-22 record last fall, the Bowdoin Volleyball team started off this season victoriously with three wins in the Colby Invitational on September 13 and 14.

The Polar Bears fell Friday in their opening match to Gordon College, a team that would go on to remain undefeated throughout the tournament. The Bowdoin team rallied, however, and went on to beat Unity College that same night by scores of 30-14, 30-7, and 30-9.

On Saturday, Bowdoin rebounded, going undefeated against its next two opponents. The Polar Bears first defeated Suffolk College 30-11, 30-14, and 30-21.
While Suffolk provided little threat, the Polar Bears found a truer tester against their rivals in the Maine-Machias squad. The victory was a tough battle, but Bowdoin came out ahead, 3-1, with close-fought games of 30-19, 27-30, 30-24, and 30-22.

The Polar Bears' 3-1 weekend earned a second place tie in the tournament along with the Mules of Colby College. This weekend, Bowdoin travels to Hamilton to participate in the first NESCAC matches of the season with the hope of continuing their upward climb.

The Polar Bears will make their home debut on September 25, taking on Colby in their second grunge match of the young season.
